91 Years Young

Sy Perlis didn’t lift weights until he was 60 years old. Over twenty years later, he decided to enter his first lifting competition. That was around five years ago. He’s now 91 years old and a world record holder. Last week, he bench pressed 187.2 pounds, the most ever in the 90-and-over division.

You can see him in action at the video below.

If you ever thought you were too old to try something new, think again. Sy Perlis just shattered every possible excuse. I would have guessed him to be in his 70s. He looks incredible.

Hats off to him for the inspiration.

  1. Having seen just how frail some older-aged people can look, this fellow looks well under his age and full of vitality. Impressive, no doubt about it.

  2. Looks very young for 91 indeed. I would have guessed him to be in his 70’s also. I think resistance training slows the aging process more than any other type of training. Cardio and conditioning training are vital parts of fitness, but I’ve noticed that “old” weightlifters seem to have a much more youthful appearance than “old” distance runners or swimmers for example. Of course the “older” you get the more important resistance training becomes. It is about as close to the “fountain of youth” that has been discovered for now.
