Gatti vs. Ward and More…

Following last month’s release of The Fighter, I’ve received several questions about Micky Ward (the fighter portrayed in the film). To my surprise, there were plenty of readers here who had not heard of him. If you’ve seen the film but not the real Micky Ward, take a look at the video below. It highlights one of the best rounds ever.

Micky Ward vs. Arturo Gatti

While on the subject of legendary rounds, a legitimate case could be made for several rounds in recent history. Below are just a few that I was able to find on Youtube. If you are a fan of boxing, I’m sure you will enjoy them.

Diego Corrales vs. Jose Luis Castillo

Riddick Bowe vs. Evander Holyfield

Marvin Hagler vs. Thomas Hearns

And for a look back at how the sport used to be, check out this classic footage between Jack Dempsey and Jess Willard. This is one of the most brutal beatings of all time.

  1. Thanks for the info. I saw the fighter and didn’t know all the history. I am sending this over to the friends I saw the movie with so they know too.

Looking for suggestions on music to listen to when I work out. My resolution for 2011 is to find more high energy music than the normal Top 40 stuff. While searching for music I found this video, its pretty funny and the song gets me moving. What to the end for a url to get the song for free: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TbJB9LxOBGI

Music suggestions welcome. Any songs you can’t go to the gym without?

  2. Gatti VS Ward 1 round 9 was amazing, in the second fight round 3 and their third fight round 7. All fantastic fights. True warriors. RIP Arturo Gatti there’s no one else like him.

  3. I like the old footage!

Boxing today isn’t watchable anymore imho, MMA is where its at.
But in those times it was GREAT!

    Thanks for the Videos! 😉

  4. Dempsey Roll! Really awesome clips. Hearns is my all-time favourite and seeing clips from Jack Dempsey is always great. Micky Ward is a surpise to me also. I’m gonna look more into hi’s career and matches later.

    Thanks for these.

  5. Back in 03′ Gatti & his trainer lived accross the street from my parents. Great/nice guys they were, came over to the house, invited us to watch them train & Mcgirt’s gym. Awesome guys! I believe I met Gatti while he was training for his first or second Ward fight. I mentioned to a trainer I just met, who is also a MMA/boxer about Gatti & Ward. He gave me a blank stare & said he’s never heard of them, even with this new Ward movie out. LOL. He’s 23. This blew me away. Anyways. This blog is one of my favs on the net. THANKS.
