I've recently been thrust into a coaching role at my local club, and I'm looking for resources to better myself as a coach and trainer.
I have all of Ross's books, and I read the forums quite often, but I still feel my coaching knowledge is very much lacking.

For the coaches out there, are there any tips that you would be able to impart on someone who is new to the role?
Or any resources that you wish you would have had when you started coaching?

Thank You for any assistance you can provide!

Give them one thing at a time to learn. ONE.

Then build from there when they "get it" and do it right consistently.

Also, realize that many will come and go and becoming a great boxer is more about the student than the teacher. It takes a special person to stick through training the hard way (meaning the right way) for a few years. Don't start catering to what the average person thinks they need. you're the coach. Your way or the highway. The special ones will work through. Most will not.

Learning to coach is THE most challenging endeavor of my life. Rare is the athlete who can master boxing. SO MUCH MORE RARE is the man who can master boxing, master psychology, organization, leadership, strategizing, and the people skills that are coaching.

The best way I know is to find a mentor coach. In any sport, they don't have to be a boxer. Someone with experience coaching who would be willing to take you under their wing. Personally, I lucked out and had one.

Do not worry about being a master coach. You might not get it perfect, in fact you might be a terrible coach. Look at the bright side though, if you are a terrible coach, you can only move up from there.
