Thursday, December 10th 2009ConditioningModified Magic 50/40:4 Rounds of 5 62lb kb snatches each arm 5 62lb kb cleans each arm 10 squat thrusts Time: Little over 17 minutes. Notes:Never tried Kettlebell snatches before, decided to give them a go instead of using dumbbells. Was able to snatch them overhead fine, but then "dropping" them again to swing through my legs before the next snatch was tearing the hell out of my hands. Don't really know how to do these right. Must start focusing as much on conditioning as I do on strength workouts. Bad side= I'm in terrible condition. Good side= It only takes a few minutes because I'm in such bad shape a few minutes can absolutely kick my ass. Somewhat Relevent Picture Of The Day:

albinofreak620 wrote: Holy shit that's a lot of volume. Anyway, good to see you with a log. I will keep an eye on this one and admonish you if you should lapse so don't let it happen again! Thanks man! I was looking through your log and it's inspiring. You have made a lot of gains in a year, I'm hoping to be in the same boat this time next year. I weigh probably close to 100lbs more than you, but your squatting a lot more than me. That's good stuff! I'm progressing pretty well on most of the lifts, so I should be squatting 3 plates in just about a month. As far as volume, I'm still not to sure if it's too much or not (not enough experience yet). I'll dial it back if I feel like I need to.

Last set was getting tough, and on the 4th rep, for some fucking reason that I have no idea, I somehow let go of the bar. I went down, started to go up, felt like I got stuck, then dropped my hands to my sides and muscled through it, with the bar not moving at all off of my back. Fucking crazy, I can't believe I did that, and I still don't know how the hell it happened. I'm trying to get the right balance between using enough hip drive on my squats, but keeping me chest rising at the same pace. Today some of the reps felt like my ass would come up first, then I would do a very small good morning at the end. I would try to take note of this and not do it, but then some of my reps felt like I wasn't using enough hip drive and "leg pressing the floor" which made it harder. Also need to get my depth right. On a couple of the reps I'm definitly going too far down, as in all the way down, before I start to come back up. This makes it much harder, and I got to get the feeling down (with heavy weight on my back) of being just below parallel. Benching was interesting. Got the first set of 5 just fine. Failed on the 5th rep on the 2nd set. Since I failed on that, I knew I wouldn't be able to make 5 reps for the next set. Since I didn't want to stall on my bench, because I've been stalling on my press, I got pretty mad. I was still pissed when I did my 3rd set, and got all 5 reps. Then I did one more set just because. Apparently anger = better lifting. Got to start getting mad more when I lift. Really happy with how far I'm going out with the ab wheel. I think I will be able to do full rollouts from my knees very soon.

Hey man, thanks for that.
How the hell did you drop a bar? Is your bar positioning solid? You're also the first person to say their squat depth is TOO deep. One thing that will help is box squatting.

Weigh In
275lbs approximately
All the scales that I have to weigh kind of suck, and are difficult to read. I think I'm going to buy one of those digital scales.

Monday, December 14th 2009ConditioningInsanity "Fit Test"Couldn't lift weights today, so decided to do a conditioning workout instead. Okay, so I will probably get made fun of for this. I borrowed the "Insanity" work out dvds from someone a few weeks ago, and I've been thinking about giving them a go. I tried it today, and I think I will do them on the days I'm not lifting weights. The dvd's seem to be a lot of jumping and shit like that, probably easy for most on here, but is the type of stuff that is hard for my fat 275lb ass, thus I should do it. It was kind of fun. I think there made by the P90X people, so I'm going to get Coach Marc to defend me if people start clowning on me. Here's how many dvd's and stuff there are.

Strength
Squat 45x5x3 135x3 225x2 270x5 275x5x2
Press 45x5x2 85x3 135x5x5
Power Cleans 45x3x3 145x3x5
Chin Ups (using medium strength stretch band) 8x3
Glute Ham Raises (assisted with arms) 5x3
Ab Wheel (partial rollouts from knees) 5x3
Barbell Twist/Rotation Thingy's 20x5x3 (20lbs not including the weight of the bar)
Wrist Curls 100x32
Notes Was kind of in a shitty mood most of yesterday and today, just bummed out about some stuff, but had a hard and good workout and really felt better afterwards. Really felt like I needed to work out all day too, as in work out for my own mental and emotional benefit (in other words so I don't go fucking nuts).
Squats felt good. Was a little worried after the fiasco last time and was wondering if the conditioning work out the day before would have tired out my legs too much. I've tried squatting the day after running sprints before with disastrous results. 275 felt MUCH easier today than 270 felt on Friday. Still would like to get a feel of squatting to the same depth every time, but that will come.
Since I've been having problems with pressing 140 for 5 reps I did 135 for 5 sets of 5 today. Last two sets got hard but I got them. 135 x 25 = 3375 which is > 140 x 15 = 2100 = I should get that shit next workout!
I think I will go to a lighter tension band on the chin ups after I get 10 reps for 3 sets. Chin ups are still really hard even with a giant rubber band helping me.
I really like the barbell twist rotation thing.
Didn't do a finisher because I hadn't eaten and towards the end of the workout I was starving. Was sweating my ass off anyway so thought I would be okay.
Good workout.

How's your pulling coming along? If you're losing weight and constantly getting stronger you'll get those pullups...BUT not before I get my one arm chin up

They're coming slowly but surely, I think I'm going to concentrate on body weight rowing for a while. I will keep you posted and let you know as soon as I beat you in our race!
