I think there's interesting evidence for it, and it's one of the very few things I"m currently supplementing (along with vitamin D, and sometimes whey). That said, from what I can tell, actual scientists are not nearly as sold on it as magazine writers and forum readers, who way overemphasize positive results and ignore negative. It's interesting enough that I supplement it, but do not think the evidence is so overwhelmingly strong that I'd drop dead if it was found to not do much someday

There's an interesting analysis here: http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/582 ... =journalnl You'll need to create a (free, I think) login to read it. It shows that if you don't just look at the trials that the fish oil supplement industry wants you to read, the evidence is quite a bit less convincing. It's from 2008 so it's 4 years behind on current research, but even back then fish oil was being declared as an obviously-proven supplement by the mags, breathless nutrition coaches and broscience practitioners.

I agree, these sites are the last place to look for objective information.

How much fish oil are you supplementing with Salto? I typically go for 2.5-3g of DHA + EPA a day, less if I eat fish that day.

I would say it's almost certainly good to supplement within a normal range if you dont get much if any fish oil, but going doing 30-50g a day like LOLiquin promotes is a surefire way to turn it into a health negative.

Where should I be looking then? I mean, I've asked people, but I don't exactly trust the people at places like gnc because I feel like their paid to promote certain products as well. asdfaljkgnalsf;' I don't know where to go for help! I know a couple of friends who have suggested rivalus, but idk. I guess that's why I was asking about premium products and if there is really a difference. I don't want to just jump onto some bandwagon because other people I know have done so...

Unfortunately, there's no one transcendent source of info that's always right. IF you want to make good choices, you'll need to make a few decisions on your own philosophy and who you want to listen to. And once you do that, you'll need to do a little reading. There's a big difference in information sources. This group -- which I obviously like -- tends to be supplement-skeptical until real evidence (not cherry-picked crappy studies) are shown, and we tend to try to increase our results through natural means when we can. Many bodybuilding forums are supplement-gullible, in my opinion. If you want to justify buying all kinds of crap, that's the way to go. And reviews on the sites that sell this stuff commercially are the most biased -- you'll find people attesting to results with just about everything.

Obviously enough, I personally favor this group. You've read my philosophy on this thread twice -- sticking with the VERY FEW supplements that seem to have some evidence behind them (e.g., whey, vitamin D), avoid chemicals and unknown ingredients. I just looked at Rivalus quickly, and it seems to be everything I avoid -- loads of extraneous chemicals and ingredients I can't pronounce, etc. You'll probably get lots of support for Rivalus on some of the goofiest bodybuilding forums though... Beyond that, you'll need to find your own path and which information sources you believe

I dunno where you guys got the thought that BodyBuilding.com reviews are "popularity contests". Read the reviews, there are many knowledgeable people there who write in-depth reviews.

Well....
I think that brand matters more for some supplements and vitamins than it does for others. I'll take pretty much any kind of melatonin or vitamin D, for example, but will only take high quality, pharmacuetical grade fish oil/omega 3 supplements. I
