Hey, guys, I just found this and it's set up pretty much for using with any stone and it's nicely adjustable. Very cheap too.

I have always been into knives and trying to sharpen them. I probably had 10 or better different sharpeners over the years and never was really happy with them. I have thrown them all away now.
I now use a 1"x30" belt sander. I have 30, 20, 15 micron belts as well as a leather belt for finishing. If you can get a knife sharper, I don't know how...I joke that the hair on my arm jumps off in anticipation of the blade hitting it. An added bonus is the convex grind you can only get with belt sharpening which is more durable than a flat (stone) or concave (wheel) grind.
I bought the belts from Lee Valley, the grinder is a el cheapo Harbor Freight that I planned to replace with something better once I figured out I'd never sharpen knives another way, but it hasn't died yet.
I would recommend going to a flea market and getting a few cheap knives to practice on. The sander is fast, there is no "guide" so you do have to free hand it. It took a little getting used to, but after a few times it's way easier than you think.

This is exactly the same grinder and probrably close to the exact same belts measured in grits rather than microns. I got mine at HF for like $30, belts were $3/ea or so and the leather strop was about $20. All in for about $75. My belts are still going strong after a couple years. I could replace my 15 as it gets used the most since once your knives are sharp you will just need to touch them up on it and the leather to keep them that way.
