Just my two cents. I think he's made a wanker of himself with his last caper: calling this woman who testified about birth control before Congress a slut and a prostitute. He said:

Quote:
What does it say about the college co-ed Susan Fluke [sic] who goes before a congressional committee and essentially says that she must be paid to have sex – what does that make her? It makes her a slut, right? It makes her a prostitute. She wants to be paid to have sex. She's having so much sex, she can't afford the contraception. She wants you and me and the taxpayers to pay her to have sex.

But when his advertisers pull their funds and suddenly it's "I didn't mean to make a personal attack" and boo hoo, please give me back my cash.

What changed suddenly?

Instead of intelligently arguing about something, lets just make personal attacks on people we disagree with!

That seems to be all I see from anyone these days, anyway. Although, Rush Limbaugh, has spent countless hours on hair making intelligent, rational arguments to support his views. He mixes in hyperbole and other controversial statements to make headlines, but apparently that's what one must do to remain relevant in today's media. Liberal commentators like Bill Maher spew their snide hatefulness on a daily basis, but I usually see people up in arms about it.

Kane, I'd agree with you about Bill Maher, I think he's a creep with an excess of self regard. In terms of personal attacks though, Limbaugh has absolutely outdone himself this time around. He slandered that woman, plain and simple... and then says he didn't mean it as soon as his cashflow was threatened. It's craven.

Conservatives on here, if you don't like things that the lame stream media put out there, why not start your own thread? I'd love to be part of that debate.

None of the examples of left wing nastiness posted above really mean anything in terms of what I've posted about here though. Limbaugh did go too far this time, he did cave in the most pathetic way possible once his revenue was threatened and he is a knob head.

Jimmy Fallon orchestra plays "lying ass bitch" when Michelle Bachman comes on stage, left wing: silent.

Letterman makes a "joke" about Sarah Palins 14 year old daughter getting raped and the left wing/liberals: silent.

Letterman makes reference to Sarah Palin fashion style as "slutty flight attendant" look, zero outrage from the left.

Anderson Cooper, neither a commentator or comedian, calls an entire political movement "teabaggers."

By the way none of the above mentioned folks received a phone call from the political opportunist in the white house known as Barack Obama.

This woman wants us to feel sorry for her because while attending law school she has to pay out of her own pocket for birth control. Well darling that is just too damn bad.

BT, whether Limbaugh was wrong for what he said or not, he apologized for his choice of words. If we demand an apology from someone for something they say, and then don't accept it once they apologize, then the problem lies with us, not the person who makes an off the cuff remark. Upon reading the initial post, I looked into what transpired, and I don't feel bad for the girl in question at all. She basically went before congress advocating for religious institutions and churches to be forced to pay for birth control, even though they morally disapprove of premarital sex.

It's not the church's responsibility to provide people with birth control. It's not my responsibility to provide people with birth control, and guess what: it's not your responsibility to provide for other people's birth control, either. No offense intended here, and please forgive me if this question does not adequately reflect your positions, but, do you ever get tired of siding with the political faction that is constantly advocating for the government to forcibly confiscate the earnings of American citizens to pay for every social program or need it deems worthy?

Do you ever stop to think about the fact that as an American citizen, as a human being, you have the right to be charitable to whomever you please, but you also have the right not to have your wealth confiscated at gun point so that politicians can dish out money to potential voting blocks?

I'm sorry, but Rush Limbaugh is not worth anyone's time. He's a freakin' shock jock; he just SAYS incendiary things for ratings. Do I actually think that Rush meant any of what he said? No, I don't. This is what I meant when I say that there are certain conservative commentators that just say crap things because that's how they stay in the spotlight (see also: Ann Coulter and Glenn Beck).

In this instance, Rush went entirely too far. This was a private citizen that was simplying attempting to advocate on behalf of women on sexual issues, and was called a slut because of it. Rush Limbaugh is not a comedian like Jimmy Fallon and David Letterman; he's taken seriously as a authority among conservatives. Anderson Cooper called the tea partiers "teabaggers" because at the time, that's what they were calling themselves. And Obama calling a private citizen to apologize for the treatment she's been subject to is not being a political opportunist; it's called being a decent person. In what way was a private phone call opportunistic? Obama didn't gather the media and attack Rush. He didn't tell the media that he made that call.

You know what's being debated? What must be covered under health insurance with no cost-sharing to the customer. It's a very, VERY basic concept; if you sell health insurance, you have to cover these things with no cost-sharing. The church isn't being forced to provide birth control, they're being told that, if they're going to give insurance to their employees, then part of that insurance that they provide is going to cover birth control. Is there an exception based on religion? No, because this affects ALL EMPLOYERS ACROSS THE BOARD. IT IS COMPLETELY EVEN.

And you know what's the oddest part? The White House backed off making EMPLOYERS cover birth control, and made it so INSURERS must cover that cost themselves.

Look, not everyone on birth control is having sex. My girlfriend has been on the pill since she was 14 because she has extremely painful periods. My sisters have been on the pill just as long because genetically, endometriosis runs in our family, and their periods are hard on them as well.

You're not even staying on topic, man. This is not about taking wealth and distributing it elsewhere; it's not even a freaking social program, as you've set forth. it's about what must be covered with no cost-sharing, by law, by health insurers. It's a moderate health insurance reform policy. No one is sticking a gun in your face, and you just sound silly making a simple insurance reform sound as such.

But back on topic, Rush reached WAAAAY too far with this attack. This wasn't some celebrity or politician or public figure. This was a private citizen, a nobody, a STUDENT, nonetheless, that was singled out for wanting a say at an all-male panel debating an issue that SOLEY IMPACTS WOMEN, and called a slut for it, by an extremely powerful conservative public figure. He's losing advertisers for this, and while I doubt that he'll lose so many that his show goes off air, I think this is one of those times where his influence will have taken a HUGE hit. Back in 2008, no one in the GOP could speak against him or contradict him without losing political backing and capital; now, it looks like the GOP officials are scolding his actions in droves.

I disagree with all of what Ad said, I just think he's a knob head. No seriously, as usual, Ad can describe what I can only.... sense.

The one thing I'd really like to restate though, is that birth control pills have loads and loads of medical uses beyond actually controlling births. Women take them for all kinds of reasons such as polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, adenomyosis, menstruation related anemia, dysmenorrhea and even acne. It's a medicine, not a license for a freaky alternative lifestyle that's gonna bring about the fall of Godly America as we know it!

Contrast that with a drug like viagra whose only purpose is to get old men like Rush Limbaugh back in the saddle. I'd be interested to see if religious instituitions have a problem with unmarried men getting hold of that. Who knows, eh?

Kane, mind if I answer this in the Obama 2012 thread? I'll do it later, right now I have to go suckle at big government's tit... uh, I mean go to work.

After that I'm going to the hospital with the missus for our second trimester ultrasound!

Willow Palin is not in the public eye, she was a 14 year old girl at the time.

I dont remember Tea Partiers referring to themselves as Teabaggers, who would do that?

There is no reason for any government funding of something like birth control. Have all the sex you want, others should not have to pay for it.

And BT hope you and your wifes pregnancy is going well and safe, all the best to you on that sir.
