Nothing for nothing, but those that box and make money doing it, I honestly think the last thing on their mind was the money in the beginning. The boxers I met usually have such a love for the sport, the money is only the plus of doing the thing they love most.

Based on what I know from what I seen to answer some of your questions:

Well the boxers and two are pros, both said they paid their dues for awhile. One guy was having his ass handed to him for the first 7 years; granted he was fighting big guys as a kid during sparring sessions.

Neither one ever made really big money, but from what they say, the big money is when you really find yourself on ESPN and HBO sports and people know who you are.

I met guys that put anywhere 4 to 8 hrs of training: road work, gym, bag, sparring, etc.

If you are really serious like the guys I met, you find your answers at a boxing gym. I was never going to go pro or amateur, I just wanted to train. The guys that were pro and did spar with me, let's just say handed my ass to me and I out weighed them and they still did a number on me. Respect!!!

HBO yes, ESPN not so much... We were just involved in an ESPN FNF show a few weeks ago. You'd be surprised at some of the minimum paydays that the fighters are making. That number becomes even lower when you factor in the payouts made by the fighter (ie. trainer gets paid, if the fighter has a manager he will get a cut, etc.).

I see your point. I know one of the two is going for his 5th pro fight soon (if it hasn't happened already). In case you heard or/and know him, Nick Lavin. Good guy and one hell of a punch: trust me I know. I think I might lose my musculus maximus because I am in deed laughing very hard.
