One Man’s Trash Is Another Man’s Gym

One Man's Trash Is Another Man's Gym

Throughout this blog’s history, I’ve shared several homemade exercise ideas, but nothing compares to what’s showcased in the video below. Take a look at what Alcindo Soares has done on a beach in Santa Maria, Cape Verde. There’s really no words to describe the level of awesomeness. Alcindo’s homemade gym is honestly one of the best things I’ve ever seen.

Between his creativity and willingness to share his work with the community, Alcindo Soares is truly an inspirational figure. His story a perfect example that it doesn’t always take a financial investment to better the lives of others around you. Plenty can be accomplished through hard work, dedication, and resourcefulness.

Naturally, the same can be said of physical fitness. Plenty can be accomplished with little or nothing. Elaborate facilities are not required. If you are creative and willing to work, you’ll always find a way to get things done. Look no further than the video above for all the proof you’ll ever need.

  1. Ross you have a way of finding some of the most inspirational stories I’ve ever seen! I’m so glad you’re back! Thank you!

  2. Ross, I really missed that. You`ve been offline for quite some time or still are, when you put something out there it`s always awesome.

  3. That was a really uplifting story thanks Ross. I was in Cape Verde in April, my second visit, and I have to say they are some of the nicest people you could ever meet.

Cape Verde is really under developed but the people honestly make the best of what the have and this is a great example.

It was a cool place to run also certain parts feel like your on the moon!

Thank you for the newsletter, really. I was following you and I know why you were away. So did all the people that read this blog and appreciate your work.
But this post is an amazing treat.
Congratulations to Katie and to the entire team the supports her!

  5. OMG, the story of Alcindo Soares is a great example for the ones who want to do something no matter what. You just need the willingness and creativity, then everything will be there. It makes me think that nothing is trash, we can use everything if we apply a proper perspective

  6. I love this. I’ve made some of my own gym kit over the years including sandbags using inner tubes, tyres to flip etc. It shows the need for bumper plates, Eleiko bars and power cages isn’t always as acute as we think.

  7. Brilliant story, I think there is something special about using equipment you’ve made yourself. I’ve made plenty of things for my gym and years later they still work great.
