The World Is Your Gym

Your success in the gym depends less on what you have and more on what you do. A makeshift gym can be created with almost anything, or perhaps nothing. The video below is an entertaining display of this simple concept. Take a look as this man turns the outdoors into an intense and effective training environment.

Don’t let a perceived lack of equipment hold you back from achieving your goals. With a little creativity, you can turn nothing into something.

Frugality is one of the most beautiful and joyful words in the English language, and yet one that we are culturally cut off from understanding and enjoying. The consumption society has made us feel that happiness lies in having things, and has failed to teach us the happiness of not having things. – Elise Boulding

I’m lucky enough to have access to a fine trail with some hilly terrain and plenty of shade since it goes deep into a wooded area which during this hot summer can provide relieve from those blazing temps we’re experiencing. Plenty of logs and large stones for hefting and tossing along the way too. Benches and some shaded pavillions along the way. The benches and tables could be used for anything from modified pistols where you let your non working leg hang straight down to just elevating the feet for pushups or pike pushups. Usually there isn’t much traffic so I don’t get weird stares when I choose to pick up some large rock and give it a toss. Just have to beware of snakes and other creepy crawlies that might be lurking under stones and/or logs that I choose to test my strength against of course.

Ross, the greatest tool we have is our minds, right? The video is a cool example that a lack of equipment shouldn’t hold anyone back from getting in amazing shape.

You dont even need much homemade equipment. With a few kegs for example you can do a tons of exercises from Lifting to Bwe if you are creative enough.

  8. [...] The World is Your Gym – Yet another great post by RossTraining highlighting that fitness is more dependent on what you do rather than what gym equipment you have.  Check out the video of outdoor training examples.  Don’t go to a gym?  Why do you need to? [...]

I’ve just started an outdoor workout routine and will definitely use some ideas from the video. Nice work!
