Inspiration from Monohar Aich

The Sandow Plus site recently added a new section for legendary bodybuilder Monohar Aich. Aich celebrated his 100th birthday in March 2012.

Monohar Aich was a dominant bodybuilder over many years. Below he can be seen at 75 years old.

If there was ever a man to listen to about longevity, Aich would certainly be at the top of the list. He is a true testament to the benefits of consistent work over many years.

A new article about his life can be viewed at the following link:

These youngsters want the easy way out these days. They don’t have the time and energy to go through the drills in an old-style gymnasium. – Monohar Aich

Damn! The photo of this man at 75 years of age is REMARKABLE!! Granted his face looks to be late 60′s to early 70′s but his body is that of a 30 something year old gym rat.

Thank you, Ross. It’s always amazing and inspiring to see something like that challenges the idea that you only get one brief shining moment and then that it’s all downhill from there.

Read the article at the Sandow site. It seems to the guy did a stint in prison after protesting colonial rule by the Brits. While in prison he worked out often times 12 hours a day without equipment. So much for modern day overtraining theories. At under 5-foot tall(4’11″) the guy sported a 47″ chest and 17 1/2 arms and given the time period he probably achieved those impressive measurements through hardwork and without the aid of pharmaceutical help. He got his start performing the traditional Indian wrestler’s exercises of Hindu pushups & Hindu squats and did quite well with those before beginning his bodybuilding career. I always thought it beneficial for someone to begin with bodyweight exercises before embarking on a weight training program if they’ve led a sedentary lifestyle or haven’t trained for sometime. Of course you can see by reading Ross’s site and others bodyweight training and weight training can and should be used in conjunction with each other for optimum results. This physical marvel also explained he believes his positive outlook no matter how grim things got accounts for his remarkable health and longevity. Given his prison stint and coming from a poverty stricken country like India those aren’t just empty words spoken from this inspirational man of fitness we could all seek to emulate.
