Marvelous Marvin Hagler

Below is a tribute video to former middleweight champion Marvelous Marvin Hagler.   Hagler was one of the greatest middleweight boxers of all time. He reigned as the undisputed champion between 1980 and 1987.  During that time, Hagler is perhaps best known for his epic fight with Thomas Hearns (watch it here).

I was fortunate to run a 5K race with Hagler many years ago at the International Boxing Hall of Fame.  I was honored to meet him as I had grown up a fan of his tremendous work ethic and determination.

All aspiring fighters can certainly learn from Hagler’s dedication to the sport.

  1. Marvin Hagler was truly one of the great ones. He had it all and he always got the job done, though he may have been less spectacular than some (entertainment wise).

  2. This post just took me down memory lane. Im from Michigan and during college (1997) me and friends were chilling in this little club in the D…someone bumped into me which caused me to bump into the guy behind me and spill his drink. That guy just happened to be Mr. Hearns himself. It was one of those “holy shit” moments. At that time i was weighing in at about 202 at about 7 percent body fat…so you know what i did…i smiled, shook his hand, said honor to meet you Mr. Hearns, and bought him a new drink 🙂 …twas a nice guy.

  3. Great fighter Hagler was, one of the best of all time and i clearly remember watching the fight where he took Alan Minter apart and then had to dodge the flying bottles that the hometown crowd threw into the ring ‘cos they couldn’t take the beating that Minter took, he was cut badly Minter if i remember correctly.
