Inspiration From Crystal West
Below is a video that was recently posted to my forum. Within the video, you will see a 44 year old woman (Crystal West) work through a freestyle pull-up session.
Perhaps even more impressive than the video above is her 39 consecutive pull-up demonstration.
If you still need pull-up inspiration, Crystal once performed 1,210 reps in 80 minutes. That’s at least a thousand more pull-ups than many will perform in an entire life.
Crystal’s pull-up strength is obviously impressive. It is much more impressive however when you consider that she is a 40+ year old woman. Most women are unable to perform a single rep on the bar. Here is a 44 year old who is just shy of 40 consecutive reps.
In the past week, we’ve seen a heavyweight on the bar and now a woman. Both are often assumed to be unable to perform reps on the pull-up bar. Clearly, these assumptions are false. There is no excuse to let the pull-up bar collect dust. Get your hands on the bar and get busy.

Wow,
I thought my 20 rep max at 45 was respectable – I’m humbled……and inspired, I shall drag my sad ass upwards and onwards.
Thanks for the pain ahead
PS Managed my target one full body roll out goal by end of year so woo hoo, 1 and counting!!!
Impressive! Also gave me some ideas for the next time I head to the gym.
She definitely got people behind her talking, hahaha!
love the people in the background of the bottom clip..
Impressive work =]
Shes got some mega lats!
I’m 43 and do twice a week my pull-ups but I’m not coming half as close to what this woman does. Respect!
I want to know how her elbows hold up. If I did a tenth of that volume, I’d have tendonitis for the rest of my life. I hate to say it’s holding me back, but…
WOW! Those are some serious pull-ups! A friend of mine (he is a fan of the crossfit program) invited me to do the 100 day burpee challenge. I didn’t know what it was but he explained it to me… Day one you do 6 burpees for a “buy-in” and one for the day. Then the next day you do two, then three, etc. If you miss a day you owe the previous day’s burpees and the current day. Sounds rough but it would be interesting to apply this idea to all sorts of workouts.
Wow! Amazing performance. Puts a lot of people to shame.
Wow, I thought I was doing well by breaking 30 pull ups. I just got smoked by a woman. Guess I have another number to shoot for.
The bottom video background people are funny. The lady is staring non-stop and for some reason the guy is laughing. Then at the end, the other guy starts up his stupid tricep machine.
Love it. That woman has earned RESPECT.
BEAST. Inspiring and humbling.
wow…….
[...] my last entry, I’ve seen comments from men and women of all ages and abilities who were amazed at the [...]
Let’s keep things in perspective here folks. She’s been working out for years. That much is self-evident. The real message here is that if you continue to take your fitness seriously you will continue to get strong or at least not lose muscle mass, improve endurance and look good! She’s not old enough for age to make a real impact. Yet.
Her pull-up numbers are impressive for any age. Her ability is also impressive for any man or woman. Most women are unable to perform a single rep. She’s cranked out 39. That alone is inspiration for women who may have viewed the pull-up bar as an impossible task.
As for the “not old enough” to decline comment, the point is that when you continue to exercise, you can continue to advance. There are impressive feats within the age-related section of the blog (showcasing men and women in their 50′s, 60′s, 70′s and even 80′s).

Here is a great example of a woman who didn’t start until she was approaching age 60:

Or what about Lono Tyson who is still cranking out pull-ups at age 81:

Or perhaps a 524 pound deadlift at age 75:

The bottom line is that the body is much more capable than many realize.

[...] Some Pull up inspiration [...]
Amazing! I know one or two people who can do as much pull-ups as she can. Age isn’t the limit – especially if you are just 40. In different sports there are still 40+ years old athletes who can compete neck to neck with guys who are 25.
If that video was to show her do a OAPU then I was going to get jealous! She’s a great example for women to learn that you don’t have to worry about getting “bulky” from hard training.
Aaron,
Just for you a video of Crystal doing a OAPU about half way in – jealous now? – sorry but I couldn’t resist it, she’s inspirational.

I’m a gym rat, can bench 300+ multiple times…and I’m nowhere near as strong as this woman. That was a great video Crystal. Thanks for the inspiration. Time to hit the pull up bar.
You Gotta love that smile and thumbs up at the end . If more people knew that feeling that creates that smile there would be alot more people exercising.
Impressive, talk about in sick shape !
