More Old School Strength
Below is yet another example of the human body’s ability to display strength with age. The video that you will see was recorded in 2007. Within the video comments, the lifter (Mike Brown) recently stated that he is 67 years old and still going strong. Three weeks ago he pressed 115 pound dumbbells for 8 reps. Below you can see him repping 120 pound dumbbells.
Minutes after posting this video to my Facebook page, a 17 year old asked me if the weights were real. He stated that he’s been lifting for 6 months and cannot imagine how a 67 year old could display such strength. I then explained to him that one of the best supplements for strength is time. Consistency is close behind. If you are consistent and diligent, the gains will come. And if you stay busy, you’ll retain the qualities that you’ve worked so hard to develop.
A few weeks or months is just a blink of an eye when you focus on the big picture. Truly impressive feats of strength take time (years, not weeks or months).
As for age, it’s just a number. You could be old at 35 or young at 65. It’s up to you to decide.

That is absolutly true.
A lot of people think they will gain strength and volume in 6 momths or so.
Precisely how it is, precisely how it is. The harder you work out the better results you’ll gain. Just keep at it and watch out for injuries.
If the 17 year old took a look at Jack Lalanne, he’s brain would melt.
Ross, I am unsure if you know who Mike is in the Dumbbell Pressing picture. Mike Brown wrote “The Strength of Samson” “Diagnostic Bodybuilding” and a couple more books. He has been in bodybuilding and fitness for about 35 years or so. From what i know of him, he is a bible scholar that applies God’s hints on training and life from his studies. I enjoy reading older publications about strength feats from time to time and thought you mike enjoy knowing this guy is legit. You can read more of him here. Keep up the good work Bro.

My dad just turned 50 and still puts up over 500lbs on the bench. he’s a life long gym freak, nothing worthy of a muscle mag. but still in stupid shape for his age. Guess that 17 year old never herd of “old man strength”?
Yes, better than nothing, I guess… but it’s the bench press … a terrible exercise. Can he do front squats with those db’s for that many reps? How about double snatches with those?
A terrible exercise? That isn’t true. Yes, the bench is often overused and emphasized, but that doesn’t make the exercise terrible. It can be useful when applied properly.
