Hang On To Your Dreams

Below is an inspiring video that was recently posted to the message board.  Within the video, you’ll see the story of Stevie Zee, a man who has refused to succumb to the challenges of cerebral palsy.

Aside from the obvious physical accomplishments, I enjoyed listening to Stevie’s words of wisdom.  He speaks about the “poor me” attitude, and how he refuses to live with that mindset.

In his own words,

“When you change your attitude, you never know what you can do with your life.”

We can all learn from Stevie’s example.  I see the “poor me” attitude almost every day.  Why waste your time living with such a negative outlook on life?  No matter how bad you have it, someone else has it much worse.  And when people like Stevie Zee can take what many would consider a bad situation and turn it into a positive, there is no reason that we all cannot do the same with our lives.

And while many will read this and nod their heads in agreement, please note that agreeing and doing are not the same.  It is one thing to know something is right, but quite another to actually initiate action and change.

Actions speak louder than words.

Ross

You’re absolutely right about “agreement” being one thing and actually initiating a change into “doing” as another. You post a lot of these messages up, ones that dictate the ability to alter one’s life through sheer will and determination. Like life itself, you get some of the same lessons over and over, but each time it’s told to you, you glean from it something new. I, as well as everyone else who frequents your blog, is surely appreciative. Train on.

That was great. I think, in addition to the “isn’t that inspirational?” effect, I think another good message to take away from the video is the effect that fitness can have on your life. I mean, look at this guy… he functions incredibly well. I only have known a few people with CP in my life, and maybe his isn’t so bad or something, but I don’t know anyone else who functions that well with CP. Look at this guy… he is healthy as could be, has a great attitude, and seems very happy with his life. Since I began exercising, I’ve gotten healthier, gained a better attitude and am generally much happier…. the benefits of fitness go far beyond looking good or performing well at a sport, and I think the general public really needs to realize this.
