Another Woman Who Defies Age!
Can you imagine biking for 112 miles, swimming 2.4 miles, and running 26.2 miles, all in a single day? At first glance, many would view this challenge as physically impossible, regardless of their training and preparation.
Fortunately, one woman can change your mind. Her name is Sister Madonna Buder. She didn’t start exercising until she was 50 years old. She has now been setting Ironman records for the past 20 years. At age 77, she is still going strong!
Can you imagine approaching a 50 year old man or woman with no exercise experience, and explaining to them the possibility of competing in a triathlon? Most would consider us crazy for even suggesting the idea.
But who is crazy? Those who believe that the body is much more capable than others realize, or those who never try to find out for themselves?
If pushing past commonly perceived limits makes us crazy, I’ll live happily crazy for the rest of my life!

Hey Ross! It’s your boy Chuck.
Wow man you just post all the greatest videos. Ross this is an amazing story!!! And man i’m crazy right along with you Ross & with her. Crazy is a good thing on this Blog. People like her just add to my joy of life each & everyday, they make me go to the Gym & besides my hardwork that helps me out do the others it’s people like her that also make the work feel much & much more easier.
Hey Manveet! Listen carefully to this video you might learn a thing or too man. Then you might actually know what i’m talking about.
Well, you know where my stance is on the whole issue.
I have strong doubts that God would we really give a damn if I completed an Ironman race for Him.
With respect to Sister Mary using God as a source of inspiration, I say good for her. But I’ll look for my inspiration elsewhere.
This video is the most inspirational one for me thus far! Thanks for sharing, Ross!
This certainly highlights for me the importance of continuing to push yourself as you get older. Although I have my doubts about whether endurance training is the most effective way to do this, nevertheless it has to be better than allowing yourself to wither.
For equally as inspiring a story, check out the 7 marathons in 7 days achievement of the then 59 year-old Sir Ranulph Fiennes.

Methuselah – No one is suggesting that all grandparents begin running triathlons. That isn’t the message. This entry should however open our eyes to the potential of the human body.

Manveet, That’s all you had to say from the get go man. Is that you don’t believe in GOD & nothing never would’ve dragged out dude. Hey Manveet your cool in my book man. It’s water under the bridge for me if it is for you. Peace!
You Go Ross. lol.
Ross – I agree wholeheartedly – didn’t mean to spoil the message
i couldnt swim 2.4, run 26.2 or bike 112 miles… i dont like to drive that far. i’ll stick to my gladiator training – but hats off to grandma!
Inspirational as it may be, I would much prefer this website, a website I have long followed, remain neutral when it comes to religion. Posting videos that proclaim God to be reason one has athletic longevity and/or success has no place here, and any fair-minded theist would agree with me. Let`s leave the poison of religion elsewhere, and keep the sanctity and neutrality of this website whole.
James – The video is inspirational, so it belongs here. Nuff said.
As for religion, I don’t preach it here, but I do have faith, and I will not hide that for anyone.
And just to be clear, my own faith wasn’t mentioned anywhere in this thread, but while on the subject, I have no problem letting it be known to anyone who is reading (which is really no different from what you just did, only the opposite opinion is being expressed by me).
Thank you in advance,
Ross
Great video Ross! A couple questions though. When praising God, should we do so before, during, or after our workouts? Which one have you found gave you more success and/or muscle growth? Also, should I switch between the father, son, and the holy spirit, or are they ok to worship on consecutive days (I`m worried about the effects of overpraising :-O) Oh, and one more before I forget, I`ve been getting injured recently much more than normal. Because God is responsible for athletic achievements, is this him telling me I`m not training properly, or that there is something else I`m not doing correctly? Give him my best next time you talk to him, I need all the help I can get! Thank you in advance.
Why does religion have anything to do with this post, and why should anyone care about another person’s religious beliefs? If this woman found the ability within herself, through God, to train so intensely, then no one should take that away from her.
Religion is not a poison; people are a poison. We infect things and destroy them: religion, politics, the ground we walk on, ourselves, and each other. Every person has the capacity to do great things, but simultaneously has the ability for destruction.
Luke (or should I say James), as you both are using the same IP address? Anyways, whoever you are, read Adam’s post directly below yours. That sums it up, and let’s be honest… does it take a rocket scientist to figure this out (not to mention the message behind the video, and why I posted it to begin with)? Perhaps something to do with a 77 year old woman achieving so much, this late in her life? Could it be that her physical accomplishments are what my entry was all about? This would be clear if you took 20 seconds to read my text entry that corresponds with the video. You won’t find any mention of religion or anything even remotely related.
Personally, I honestly don’t care about her religion. I couldn’t care less. Her religious beliefs have absolutely nothing to do with me posting this video. But once again, do we really need to consult with a rocket scientist to figure this out?
I didn’t think so…
Ross
