Update To A Past Entry (Incredible Video)
Last month, I posted a video of Barbara Guerra. It had been emailed to me, and I was obviously impressed and inspired by her abilities. To my surprise however, there is much more to her story. A reader of the blog recently emailed me another video of Guerra. To say that I am impressed is an understatement. I am in awe over how this woman has adapted to the cards that she has been dealt in life.
Her daily life is a walking and talking demonstration of human potential. It also confirms my beliefs from a prior entry (regarding the power of choice). When choice is removed from the equation, we as people become far more capable than many could ever imagine.
After watching this video, I found another from a few years earlier. Within the older clip, she demonstrates her ability to change a diaper with her feet. I’m not ashamed to admit that I’ve had troubles when my daughter is squirming around and I’m using two hands!
I’m literally blown away at Guerra’s ability to move past surviving and move on to thriving. There really is so much that we can all learn from this story.

Ive just seen this video with my wife, and im in shock. Firstly, we cant help but feel for Barbera, but secondly and more importantly the way she has adapted to using her legs and feet. Absolutly amazing.
Hey Ross! It’s your noy Chuck.
Barbera is just a phenominal woman. God has blessed so many people with so many gifts in this world, But i think it’s just extraordinary when he gifts people like Barbera. Because i believe people that are in situations as like she’s in, Motivates even the most toughest, talented & gifted individuals that God has gifted. Barbera, You are truly a gift. I know you must thank many people for support, But i wanna thank you for your support. THANK YOU BARBERA!!!
I’m sorry Chuck but you have got to be kidding me. Do you honestly believe God has given Barbera a gift? How delusional are you?
If you honestly believe that an innocent toddler being electrocuted to the point where the flesh on both of her arms melts off like putty is a gift from God, you have to seriously reconsider your conception of an all powerful, benevolent creator. I mean why did God have to inflict so much needless suffering and pain if his plan was to give Barbera a gift?
Chuck, ridiculous comments like yours only serve to degrade the human condition even further. There are millions of people out there suffering from some of the most abhorrent circumstances imaginable. To consider their plight and suffering as “gifts from God” only serves to trivialize their pain and anguish.
Ross, I apologize for having to steer the conversation in this direction, but I feel that somebody had to say something.
Hey manveet. maybe i gotta write my post over for you in Capital letters or something for your Dumb A** to understand !!! Did i say that GOD gave her a gift by disabiling her??? Somebody else please read my comment & please tell me where this retart saw me say it was a gift for Barbara to be Electricuted??? If so there seeing something i’m not seeing then. What happened to her was very unfortunate & definitely not a gift from GOD. Now after this tragic accident occured do you think for a second that It isn’t GOD that motivated this woman to do the things she’s able to do now??? What she’s able to do now is without a doubt a gift from GOD.
So Ross i apologize! For this Dumb A** not getting the story right. Next time read well & Carefully Manveet, before opening your mouth!!! Again forgive me Ross for having to steer this misunderstanding individual in it’s place.
Manveet,
Please explain in some detail what the human condition is to you so we can get this debate going for real. Whether we believe in God is irrelevant. I for one find myself in the presence of somthing greater than all of us when I trek into the mountains on a beautiful day and gaze upon a beautiful lake. When I see a single mother struggling to hold her family together. Even the disabled individuals that push on in society regardless of their handicap inspire me to quit feeling sorry for myself. Greatness has many forms, both beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. So ask you Manveet in the spirit of the joker “Why so serious? (NEGATIVE)” What eats you up inside? Maybe you should ask youself. Do you think Barbera would be as happy as she is if she spent her life calling GOD an SOB if that’s what you choose to believe in.
To your credit you didn’t specifically state that her being horribly mutilated was a gift from God. However, you also didn’t specifically mention that her motivation and will to live was a gift from God either. I inferred the former, but in actuality your logic doesn’t make much sense no matter how you look at it.
Like I mentioned above, if God’s intention was to give Barbera a gift why did he feel the need to inflict so much needless pain and suffering on an innocent child? Also, what about the millions of other individuals all around the world that weren’t spared by a “gift from God” and ended up perishing amidst nothing but pain and misery? This just does not make sense to any rational human being.
I know that you did not specifically say that Barbera being electrocuted was a gift from God. However, what you are saying is implying a lot of other nonsense that only serves to trivialize the plight of millions of human beings suffering all around the world. Remember Chuck, whenever you wish invoke the idea that some individual has been blessed with a “gift from God” you HAVE to face up to all those millions of other human beings left high and dry. To do otherwise (like you have done) would be considered downright delusional.
Cool Manveet at least you partially answered my question. You have valid points (questions). This is our history as species and it will always be. In this misery you spend so much time pondering over, which by the way, is not healthy is where heroes and legends are born. So if you have no excuses, why don’t you jump up and become a miracle for some of those millions. Changing one persons life, we potentially impact maybe millions through the ages. Ripple effect, get it. We can sit and ponder over the masses that are suffering thus feeling overwhelmed, or we can reach out to a handful and make change that way. When lost at sea you cannot look at the ocean and say Oh Sh#t. Take it one wave at a time.
To address your post Dragonn I am not sitting around pondering the world’s problems 24/7. One does not need to do that in order to understand the logical inconsistency in Chuck’s statements. The world is filled with good and evil. Like I mentioned above, one cannot attribute all good things in this world to the hand of God and at the same time turn a blind eye to all of the evil in the world.
One does not need to invoke the existence of a personal God in order to understand the tremendous potential of human beings. When I see people like Barbera I’m not inspired by them because they have been fortunate enough to attain the favors of some God. I’m inspired because I see how people can accept what cards nature has dealt them (no question in an impersonal way), and still have the will to carry on with their lives. To me it is a testament to the strength and courage our species is capable of.
