Inspiration From Barbara Guerra
Last week, I received an email with a link to Barbara Guerra’s video below. It was suggested by a reader as a possible blog entry for the site (sorry, but the video cannot be embedded):

As soon as I opened the video, I knew it had a place within the Inspirational category here. All that was needed was some corresponding text to go along with the entry. I was busy last week however adjusting to our baby girl, so the Guerra entry was put on hold…
I had almost forgotten about the video until reading an email this morning. I received an email from an 18 year old man who was complaining about his height. In his words, he is only 5′9″ and is desperate to be at least 6 feet tall. His tone signified the end of the world. He was really that upset (if he only knew that I wasn’t even 5′9″). I’m lucky to tip the scales at a monumental 5′8″.
Anyways, after reading his email, the Guerra video popped into my head. Is height really that big of a deal? When you watch the video above, you’ll see that there are much bigger problems in the world. It will put your height problems in perspective. You’ll also see that strong people (body and mind) like Barbara Guerra don’t let obstacles hold them back or slow them down.
Based on the video above, she doesn’t view her situation as a handicap. It is what it is, and she does what she does. It is pretty obvious that she doesn’t sit around all day moping about her situation. Instead, she gets up each day and goes for it. She can serve as an inspiration for all.
At the end of the day, life isn’t that bad. Put your problems in perspective and you’ll often realize that your problems will barely register on even the strongest microscope.

Its amazing what some people can accomplish. I remember a quote that i kept hearing and its embedded on my brain !!! “Let’s not limit our challenge, but instead, let us challenge our limits”
and wow! its inspiring what some people can accomplish especially with their disability. I believe that whining about a problem won’t do anything… Just watching the deadliest catch some guy said … ” Complaining is like being in a rocking chair… it doesn’t really get you anywhere” however…. awesome blog Ross!!!
She kicks my ass never heard of her till i watched that vid!
Im only 5′6′’, i nearly always spar or fight people bigger but it makes it more of a challenge. Just get on with it, no one is problem less.
I’m 6.6 and I would gladly sacrifice 6 inches to have fewer head injuries. Seriously I’ve hit my head so many times I bet I’ve lost 20 iq points in the past decade. People ask does getting hit sparring hurt, sure a little depending on the pace tempo and where you get hit. Catching the crown of your head in the basement door jam, now that HURTS! The day sparring hurts like that is the day I stay exclusively with the bag.
Wow, inspirational indeed. BTW Have y’all seen this video about an Autistic water boy Jason McElwain sinking 6 3-pointers in a row in his first game ? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zENySdFr7M4
hey ross,
your absolutely right!!
as for the boy, a quick browse arround and he would have found that that the “average height” in the US for adult males is about 175(5′9″) and any deviation below 20% is conciderd normal(that is almost a foot *in both directions*).
anyway ,im 18 and it feels like im stil growing. heigt is not so big a deal if you’re “normal”,i’m about 5′ 11″
or something who cares… aslong as i’m healthy
as for mister complainer:
HEY lighten up thare is a reason average(ex.size medium) is so widely available, its because most people are. stop worrying about things you can’t controll like your height and start working on the things you can , like school, your well being and/or conditioning so buy one of ross’ manuals nd get started;-) and do your homework ofc. and live your life as the best you you can be couse your the onlyone who can.
I dont think he should worry about it so mutch like ross sayd life has bigger problems when you put them in perspective
props for the lady she realy kicked some ass on that stage
grtz,
Trip
