I think many people won’t even finish watching the video because they don’t want to face the atrocities behind their delicious meals.

To sum it up for those people: buying local/free range/organic is much healthier and humane.

As Matt commented, “buying local/free range/organic is much healthier and humane”. You can’t put it more simply than that.

If you have the budget (and many of us would if we didn’t spnd out money on silly things), I’d say it is preferable to invest in your own food intake to the best of your abilities.

There’s always the vegetarian option to consider as well - if being humane to animals is of chief concern, you can’t get much more humane than that.

On the subject of budget, yes, if you currently eat out 3 meals a day and only buy pre-prepared food at the store, you might actually save money by buying local or organic foods and preparing them yourself. If, however, you already prepare 95% of your own meals and consider getting take-out one every couple weeks “normal,” you are going to be *shocked* at the cost of organic meat/eggs/dairy/produce. It’s undoubtedly the better choice, but going 100% organic is not always realistic if it means $300/wk for groceries.

That’s atrocious. Does anyone know if broilers are handled a similar way in the U.S.?

300$ for one person? Are you kidding? What are you eating? Whole cow with a side of potato sack?

I’m a wegetarian on trial (about 1 month). I started crying when I saw how my food was made. That felt wrong. If you cry when you see your food being prepared, change your diet. See the movie “Earthlings”.

Chicken for me is a treat. I eat it about once maybe twice a month and buy it from the biological butcher down the street. It costs more but it tastes like chicken just as it should.
I’m not a vegetarian but i’ve cut down on the amount of meat i eat over the past few years. Quality for quantity. I feel better for it too.
If you eat meat you should know where it came from and how the animal was treated.

I hate to be the one to crack a bad joke but that conveyor belt ride looks fun. sorry had to say it.

No, sorry, I meant $300 (and really $300+) for a family. Typing into this little box makes me loopy, apparently since I’d screwed up every single one of about 3 posts I’ve made.

Mmmmmm…..chicken….I know I probably stand alone here, but this video didn’t make any impact on me….other than making me wish that I had a nice juicy chicken in the smoker right now…..

I think that video really hits it home when thinking about organic eating. That treatment of chicken puts many worries in my mind about how that will effect the quality of what you are eating and of course what may happen disease wise. I wish we had a lot more organic farmers around but it’s difficult to get past the corporate markets that create these farms.

Chicken is like 1/2 my diet! I just might have some for lunch now that I’m thinking about it.

Sad, no other word for me. Just sad.

I’m grateful I live in a small enough country that conditions are nothing like that. Regular chicken here is pretty close to organic.

Ugh, makes me sick to see how us humans have complete disregard for other life like we’re so superior to them. The hawk hunts its prey as does the wolf. We use to hunt as well and did it every day/every other day. None of this bull, disrespecting the animals.

The Native Americans would always honour the spirit of the animals they killed and used every part for some tool or food. It just goes to show we lost almost all reverence for other life.
