Fight Night

Tonight is the fight in Krefeld, Germany.  Matt made weight and the team went to a nice Italian restaurant later in the day.  I didn’t know they had such good Italian food in Germany!

If you are in the area, come on down tonight.  There are several bouts on the card, so I’m sure it will be a great show.  Matt has worked very hard, so I look forward to the fight.  I’m also looking forward to seeing my family again.  Germany has been great, but nothing beats being back home with the family.

I look forward to meeting some of you tonight!

Ross

PS - I’ll get back to the regular blog schedule upon my return on Monday.

    Well, German food is awful. Germans realize this and patron foreign restaurants a lot. When german people go out for a “serious” dinner, 90% of the time it’s NOT a german restaurant.

    An American tells us how awful German food is - that is really funny :)

    I don’t mean this in an offensive way at all but it seams in almost every picture of ross and the other guys they always have a fist raised up? I just thoguht it funny.

    Yes, that is just how we always took pictures as young fighters. I suppose it never leaves.

    On another note, it was a tough fight, and Matt lost a decision.

    Here is the official re-cap from Fightnews.com:

    *****
    In an important WBC cruiserweight eliminator, #2 Rudolf Kraj (14-0, 10 KOs) earned the right to challenge for the WBC title with a twelve round unanimous decision over previously unbeaten #1 rated Matt Godfrey (16-1, 9 KOs) on Saturday night at the KönigPALAST in Krefeld, Germany. It was a tactical fight with neither fighter establishing a clear advantage, however Kraj did a little more to win 115-113, 115-113, 117-111.

    Matt picked things up and finished the fight strong. It was not enough however. After looking to the scorecards, they had given the first 4 rounds to Kraj. Matt simply got too far behind, and wasn’t able to regain the ground. I’m proud of the effort that he put forth in the late rounds however. He sucked it up when he needed to. He finished strong, but it wasn’t enough to offset the slow beginning. I tip my hat to Kraj. He won the silver medal in the Olympics and is a solid pro. He came to fight and I can’t argue with anything. Kraj fought well.

    This is a tough sport. It’s always tough to taste defeat. I’ll share more later, but as you can imagine, it is hard to deal with at the moment.

    It’s really a good thing he kept fighting. A true fighter is not discouraged and keeps it up until the fight’s over. Great job!

    @Funny guy Markus:

    What makes you think I’m an american? Look at my website. Or try not to judge people negatively before knowing anything about them, that makes you look like a fool.

    What I meant is that the traditional German meals are not Italian, so I wasn’t expecting to find such a good Italian restaurant in the middle of Germany. The German food throughout the week was excellent however.
