Too Old?
For those who use age as an excuse to avoid exercise, I suggest that you take a look at this woman’s site:
This woman is 63 years young, and can deadlift 275 pounds. She is a NASA USA National Powerlifting champion. What makes her accomplishments even more impressive however is that she didn’t start training until 2003.
Now who said that you are too old to exercise? This woman didn’t begin until she was approaching age 60, and now she is competing as a powerlifter.
She is living proof that the body can accomplish much more than most will ever realize. There are action takers and action fakers. Some people wake up each morning and GO FOR IT, while others sit back and wonder why nothing falls in their lap.
New flash – If you want something, go and get it. If you don’t get it, work harder until you do. That is the real secret to success (commonly referred to as busting your ass).

Very cool! I also wonder how many people realize that this is probably safer than a lot of other things would be (like jogging). And imagine how much she’s helping her body by actually gaining muscle instead of losing more and more.
I think it’s also a lesson on the general problem of “I’m too old”. You won’t be anywhere at all if you don’t start. There are examples of people doing very well after a late start (Jason Garfield is one of the world’s best jugglers and he wasn’t a kid when he started).
There’s an important thing I’ve learned from my own given hobby (yo-yos.. don’t laugh). Plenty of kids start it up and it is amazing how fast they learn. But you know what? Most of them also quit after a couple of years. I’m no super-fast learner but I kept plugging away at it for 10 years because I enjoyed it and I’m now at a relatively high level. It’s always funny if someone says “you must have a lot of time on your hands” when they waste hours a day watching TV instead..
Plus, there’s plenty of things that are worth doing even if you aren’t the best ever. Being able to do some acrobatics sure is neat even if you aren’t planning on competing in the olympics as a gymnast or performing in a circus! So many people think just of looks without considering how useful it actually is to have a fit body. My Mom’s been trying to exercise a bit more now and even with the modest things she’s doing, she comments on how much easier it is to go up and down stairs, carry groceries, etc!
Like that. I can also mention Steve Maxwell still at ELITE level in BJJ at age 54.

The older you are, the MORE important it is to exercise!
It makes me wonder if on some deep down level, people actually WANT to get old and fragile

This is just the perfect example. I have a client in her 50’s and she has the stamina and a body of a 23 year old. So I use her as an example every time. This just goes to show that age is just in your mind! Thanks for putting this up.
Wasn’t someone on the message board asking if he was too old at 21 for a pro boxing career??
Kinda makes you rethink alot of things concerning age.

Too often I think its a stigma that people fall into. This is where my “position in life” resides. “I should be happy here.” BS! Yes, be happy but never settle, never compromise.
