Eat More Veggies!

Adding more fresh vegetables to your diet is always a good idea. This shouldn’t come as a surprise. The article below is not directly related to this subject, but is interesting nonetheless…
Enjoy,

Wow… More than 200g of protein a day?
Who are those people? Giants? (Get it? NY, Giants…)
I’ve always heard that a 200 lbs very athletic man only
really needs ~150-200 g of protein a day…
Anymore than that and you just excrete it anyway and
jack your kidneys…
Well, I support the idea of protecting the earths ecological system, but it doesn’t seem to fit in my lifestyle. As a serious power trainer, I need a lot of protein and - even more important - fat (also saturated)!
I really can’t imagine a day without some eggs and good portions of meat/fish. Although I eat a lot af vegetables, I can’t function with just vegetables.
And I think there are a lot of people like me! Is the solution to ecological problems really stopping peoples athletic ambitions?!
Perhaps the real problem is the wrong distribution of food (and other things) in the world. If we would all be able to run our own little ‘farm’, I don’t think there would be any problem. (I know this idea is a little ridiculous, but still…)
Muay Thai, your idea of everyone having their own little farm is splendid. People would understand where their food came from, they would eat healthy and more nutritious food and ecologically, things would be easier. Ross, I do not believe that the chart you showed is very accurate. They are comparing fruits and veggies to grain fed meats. Grain fed animals obviously need more land because they need the land to grow the grain and then the land to shelter the animals. However, grassfed animals, roam freely, produce very high quality meats and do not need any feed…the grass is their feed…that is it. Simple and very energy efficient if you ask me. To top it off, I believe there is just as many omegas in grassfed beef as there is in wild salmon.
I agree with you Dane, but I also haven’t had any cows roam through my yard lately. I’m all for grass fed meat, but I don’t believe we can feed the entire country with grass fed meat. How much land do we have available for roaming cattle?
Just playing devil’s advocate of course… as I too enjoy grass fed meat.
By the way, the research came from Cornell University. I’m sure it would be easy to contact the department head if you were interested.

Ross, think about how much land it actually takes for them to grow the grain and then harvest the grain and house the grain that they use to feed the cows. Take that land and turn it into pasture and I think the problem is fixed. Just a thought. I was hoping my brother would chime in since he knows more specifics behind farming but I believe he is too busy with his new born son, haha.
