Randy Does It Again!

Look out world…

Randy Couture has done it again!  Only this time, he did it at age 44!  That’s right, 44 years old!  On Saturday night, Couture dominated Gabriel Gonzaga (28 years old) via a 3rd round TKO to retain his UFC Heavyweight championship.

Couture really has taken the age-doesn’t-matter saying to a new level.  Back in 1994, George Foreman defeated Michael Moorer at age 45 to become the heavyweight champion, but his victory was much different.  It was Moorer who dominated throughout, until Big George landed the single knockout punch.

Couture’s victory was also one sided, but he was the man who dominated throughout.  He didn’t land one punch.  He dominated the fight from start to finish.

I actually receive emails EVERY week from someone who writes “complaining” about their old age.  These people actually complain about being in their 30′s!

We can only hope that Randy Couture can change the minds of many, who have all but given up.

Forget age.  It’s just a number, until you start believing that it is more than a number.  The body AND mind are much more capable than most realize.

Sure there will be doubters and critics, but often times, these doubters simply hate on those who have done something that they couldn’t do or wouldn’t do.

I’m sure there were doubters who told Randy that he was too old.  He didn’t listen.  At age 44, he is as dominant as ever!  I can’t wait to see him fight again!

Ross

Couture is the man! What an inspiration. What I especially like about him is that he seems like such a grounded, down to earth dude. Most of these MMA fighters talk tough and act like they are the baddest sobs, a lot of scowling, and posturing, and trying to look hard. It really turns me off to the sport, but Couture seems like such an honest, noble, and just plain all around good guy you can’t help but take your hat off to him. Mucho respecto.

I’m 34 years of age and am attempting to stay as fit as possible.

The guy is an inspiration to me.

Randy is incredibly impressive in many ways. Gonzaga is younger, strong as a bull, bigger, and had a lot of momentum, but lost to a superior combination of skill, patient and opportunistic experience, determination, character, conditioning and heart.

I saw short clips of Randy training for the fight that were very interesting- lots of bodyweight basics Ross covers in Infinite Intensity. This stuff works.

Randy is The Real Deal of the UFC. We all can learn from him how to accomplish a goal with focus and dignity.

Guys like Randy Couture inspire me to keep training in combat sports despite being in my 40′s. Focus on what you can do, and don’t worry about things you can’t control (like age).

Even more impressive considering Gonzaga broke Randy’s arm with a kick during the fight.

Man after watching randy rise through the ranks into the heart of america it really makes you wonder just how far you can really push it. Everyday I think of randy couture and it gives me that extra push to go another mile. God bless you Randy.

Thanks Ross. I’m 49.5 and doing my best to stay in “good” shape and progress to “extraordinay.” Your web site is a big help and this particular entry was of special interest to me.

No one has to look any further than Randy Couture for ispiration. After my college athletic career was over I spent a few years on the couch feeling sorry for myself. Now, I am 33 and in the best shape of my life because of this guy. Randy is the man!!!

First of all let me say one thing. Ross, I’m so happy to have found your website! You are absolutely amazing and inspiring! I have told everyone I know about your site! I don’t want to bore anyone, but I think this is the perfect time to quickly tell my story. About a year and a half ago a co-worker told me about a boxing conditioning class at our local YMCA. I have always loved boxing so I knew I would love the class, besides I weighed 250 pounds which was not good. The class was 2 days a week starting at 6:15am and lasting until 7:15am. Well, to make a long story short, I still attend the class and I’ve lost 43 pounds…so far! (I keep hitting my goals so they keep changing) I’m constantly trying to recruit people for the class as well. Oh I should mention that my 39th birthday is coming up in December. I loved the class so much, that myself and a few of the other people in the class have taken it to another level, we are actually sparring now. Not only that, but the instructor and I have taken it even further than that, we are officially amateur fighters in the USA Master Boxing Division! I’m completely addicted!! Bottom line… you can do whatever you put your mind to, you just have to want to do it, stay focused, and stay positive! THANKS ROSS!!
