Great Knockouts
While many fans admire the skill of Floyd Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya, there are still plenty who would have rather seen an all-out war such as the great Hagler vs. Hearns slugfest.
If you were hoping for a knockout, you may enjoy the video clip below. I posted this to the old blog, but it is certainly worth a repeat. It was recently posted again on the message boards.
Sit back and enjoy the action, as the video below contains plenty…

2 commentsOne Man’s Junk Is Another Man’s Treasure

My brother-in-law called me up today to let me know that someone had thrown away several dumbbells. They were thrown in a dumpster behind his store. I thought it sounded too good to be true, but decided to check it out on my way home this evening. I took a peak inside and was shocked to see several hundred pounds of quality dumbbells. Sure, one or two had a little rust, but nothing that some WD-40 wasn’t able to clean up (cleaned after I took the picture above).
I’m certainly not a garbage picker, but I’ll take on the title if it means finding two 85 pound dumbbells, two 95 pounders, one 100 pounder, one 105 pounder, one 110 pounder, and one 150 pounder! These will make a nice addition to the gym. With a little paint, they’ll look brand new.
Now, as for the reason behind this blog entry, I’m not really sure. I’m just stoked about finding these weights.
As many of you know, I’ve always been a big fan of homemade equipment whenever possible. In addition to homemade equipment however, you’d be shocked at what you can find locally by reading through the classifieds (local and online). I see full weight sets ALL the time, that people are literally willing to give away if you come and pick them up. A buddy of mine just picked up a 300 pound Olympic weight AND bench for $50. He found the set at the online classifieds site Craig’s List. The equipment could pass as brand new. A college kid was moving out and couldn’t take the weights with him.
I guess the old saying is true. One man’s junk is another man’s treasure!
Have a great weekend,
Ross

Aspartame
Check out the Fox news report on aspartame
While there are many opinions on this subject, I can say without question that I noticed a HUGE difference when I stopped consuming aspartame based products.
I highly recommend against artificial sweeteners.

A new study confirms the health benefits of whole grains.
As stated within:
“Greater whole grain intake is associated with less obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol — major factors that increase the risk for heart disease and stroke.”

As for which grains to purchase, I suggest reading through the article below:
As stated within, “Buy only organic whole grains…“

A new study by the Food Standards Agency suggests that food additives are causing serious problems for children across the world.
Wasn’t it Jack Lalanne who said that “If man made it, don’t eat it.”
I’ll stick with his advice.

Mayweather Wins
Overall, Saturday night was a great event for the sport of boxing. The bout was competitive, and certainly entertaining. We didn’t get the all-out slugfest that many hoped for, but you’ll rarely see reckless fighting with such skillful boxers.
Ultimately, Floyd’s defense was too good. Oscar pressed the action, but was unable to land any meaningful punches. Floyd was too accurate and too fast.
Here is a recap of the event:

4 commentsOscar Vs. Floyd
Unless you live under a rock, I’m sure you are aware of the upcoming bout between Floyd Mayweather and Oscar De La Hoya.
HBO has been providing behind the scene footage of each athlete in training camp through their 24/7 series. If you do not have HBO, you can view many of the highlights on Youtube. Below is a link to one of the introductory scenes.
This kind of mega-bout is just what the sport of boxing needs. This event has certainly rekindled the fire amongst many boxing fans.
Post your official predictions under this thread. I see two possible outcomes. Floyd by decision, or Oscar by KO. Floyd is the faster, sharper boxer, while Oscar is certainly the bigger, stronger man.
