Roy Jones Video
Check out this Roy Jones compilation. Lots of great footage throughout the clip…
I was fortunate to visit Roy’s father in Pensacola several years ago where he was still training amateur fighters in his driveway (the same home that Roy Jones Jr. grew up in). It was a great experience to see Roy Sr. train his fighters.
Roy’s father has developed 4 world champions from scratch (meaning these fighters started with him). Many trainers today gain credit for working with fighters who are already tremendous athletes. Roy’s father molded four champions from scratch, so it says something about his coaching style. He obviously knows the game.
Whether or not you are a Roy Jones fan, it is clear to see his tremendous athletic ability, particularly in his prime.

Speed bag guru Alan Kahn recently posted a link to this video on the board.
Talk about some great old-school speed bag footage! This woman had serious skills on the bag.
Hitting the speed bag won’t teach you how to fight (or punch), but it is a fun addition to a workout. It’s a great way to mix in some work without feeling like work.
For more info regarding speed bag training, check out Alan’s site and this article that he provided for the site.

I want to thank everyone for the emails and comments regarding the accident. I really appreciate everyone’s support.
I was back in the gym yesterday. It felt great to be back. I was just coaching, and not actually training myself, but I’ll be back up to speed in no time.
The accident really served as a wake up call. I always try to enjoy life, my family, etc… but it is human nature to get lost in the commotion of each day.
One minute I am saying good bye to my son, and the next minute (literally 2 minutes later), I almost crash off a cliff. If it wasn’t for the guard rail, I’d be a distant memory. I definitely owe a BIG thank you to the crew who installed the guard rail. I can’t believe it sustained the weight of the delivery truck. I glanced over the cliff and was at a loss for words. It didn’t sink in right away that I was a few feet away from an unattached bungee cord jump off a cliff.
I will not dwell on the past however. What’s done is done. It’s time to move on. I’ll be fine and I’ll be back to my routine in a week or two.
I’ll get back on daily blog entries tomorrow and will be moving servers either later this week or early next. The change should mean the end of error messages and slow loading pages on the message board.
Thank you again for your support. Now, let’s get back to busting ass in the gym!

I just wanted to let everyone know that I was in a car accident earlier this week. I was a little banged up, but I’ll be fine. I’ll get back on the daily blog entries over the weekend.
I will also be upgrading (next week) to a more robust server, so the message board and forum will run much faster (with minimal downtime).
I apologize for the delay in answering emails over the past few days. I will catch up with everyone in the next day or two.
Stay strong,
Ross

I’ve received several emails regarding Randy Couture’s style of training and pre-fight preparation following his bout on Saturday.
The video clip contained within the link below provides a brief glimpse inside his training camp.
Enjoy!

As was mentioned before, age doesn’t matter! On Saturday night, Randy Couture dominated the MUCH larger and younger champion Tim “The Maine-iac” Sylvia.

And in the boxing world, another amazing story took place on Saturday night. Edison Miranda defeated favorite Allan Greene. Miranda’s victory was convincing, but it is his life story that is truly amazing.
For those unfamiliar with this story, please take a moment to read through his bio at the link below.
As quoted within:
“At just one month old, his mother gave him to a family friend to be raised. Edison was both physically and mentally abused by this person. At nine years old, he decided to search for his mother all by himself. He traveled all across Colombia and finally found her; however, she rejected him again. He was now all alone on the tough streets of Colombia at the young age of nine. He spent the rest of his childhood working hard in the plantain and yucca fields of Tumaco and sweeping up for street vendors in the neighboring town of Buenaventura. He ate whatever he could find on the streets in order to survive. By the time Edison was 12, he was already working a grown-man’s job in construction. Just two years later, he worked as a cattle butcher in Barranquilla, where he would soon begin pursuing his dream of becoming a champion boxer.”

Anyone can find inspiration in Miranda’s story. This is a man who was given nothing in life. He is living proof however that we can all write our own stories. We each have the power to determine our destiny.

Saturday night marks the return of Randy Couture.
He’s Back - Couture Unretires To Challenge Silva

This is an interesting fight, even for the non-fight fans who may have stumbled across this blog. Randy Couture is 43 years old!
Perhaps I should reword that… Randy Couture is 43 years young!
To those who harp on age, let Couture be an example. He’s defied age. He’s proven that the body IS much more capable than we realize.
42 year “young” boxer Bernard Hopkins was in a similar position last June. He too proved that age was just a number when he dominated former light heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver.
You don’t need to be a fight fan to appreciate the accomplishments of these men. Age IS just a number, unless you allow it to be something more.
Stop harping on the age excuse. If you want to achieve something, don’t let an insignificant number such as age hold you back.

The next time you get a craving for fast food, keep in mind that you will have some competition. Check out the video below, as many of these rats seem to be agile and fast. You’d better be quick if you wish to eat some KFC chicken!
Take my advice and pack your own meals, from REAL food!
