Dioxins in the Food Chain

Dioxins in the Food Chain

This report will open your eyes to yet another problem within the food chain.

*****

Dioxin and related compounds, i.e. polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxin (PCDDs), polychlorinated dibenzofurans (PCDFs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), are halogenated aromatic compounds which are industrial pollutants that persist in the environment. In addition to cancer, dioxins have been linked to adverse human health effects such as developmental, immunologic, and endocrine toxicity.

Action

A wise man once said,

“Action speaks louder than words - but not nearly as often.”

Let’s face it.  Our world is filled with action fakers.  Action takers are the exception, not the rule.  If you want to excel in this world, you’d better be ready for action.  Knowledge is useless if you never get up and USE it!

Below is a great interview regarding Fedor Emelianenko’s training style:

http://fedor.bel.ru/index_eng.shtml?id=147

Within this interview, Fedor’s coach is asked the following question:

Do you feel like you’re giving away some valuable info during such interviews?

“Not at all, because no info can make a master.  Everyone knows the details of many things, but that doesn’t make one a master.  What makes one great is hard work.  One has to die in training, only then a move begins to work.”

*****

Pay close attention to his words.  Forget about instant gratification.  Fedor busts his ass.  That is his reason for greatness.  Learn from his example, no matter what you aspire to be in life.

Action!

I’m fairly confident that we all know the importance of fruit and vegetable consumption.  Many obese individuals know what to eat, but they don’t have the willpower to make the changes necessary to lose the weight.

We live in a world where the consumer demands respect.  Businesses adjust their marketing plans in consideration of the educated consumer.  The old business mantra states that the customer is always right.

With the ever growing presence of the Internet (information highway), it doesn’t take more than a few keystrokes to gain an understanding of proper nutritional habits.  It certainly does not take a rocket scientist to understand and accept the importance of fruits and vegetables in the daily meal plan.

Unfortunately, while many are cognizant of this fact, most choose to ignore the advice.  A new report suggests that Americans are actually eating less and less veggies.

5 a Day for Fruits and Vegetables? No Way, Surveys

With increased awareness and readily available knowledge, it is ironic that more and more people choose to ignore sound nutritional habits.  Perhaps the consumer isn’t always right after all, and if they are right, they have chosen not to apply their knowledge.

Ultimately, the real lesson to be learned is that knowledge means nothing without action.

More sleep ideas…

Those interested in minimal sleep options/ideas may enjoy the links below:

Uberman’s Sleep Schedule

Polyphasic Sleep

I have never experimented with such a system, but am interested in giving it a try.  It’s difficult to formulate an opinion without hands on experience.  I may give it a whirl later this summer.

Anyone with experience is welcome to share feedback within the comments section of this blog entry.

Sleep…

As a father of a 9 month old son, sleep is a luxury, that is not often experienced.  I rarely exceed 5 hours of sleep in a 24 hour period.  I can’t say that I recommend such a pattern, but I can say (without question) that the body can adapt to less than the traditional 8 or 9 hour recommendation.

According to many experts, I must be fatigued, weak, and constantly out of gas.  The opposite is actually true however.  I may not receive 8 hours of sleep, but I feel great, energized, and continue to make gains in the gym.

As I’ve said before, the body can adapt to much more than we realize.  I am not suggesting that we all stop sleeping, but at the same time, don’t give up on yourself due to limited sleep (ex. a new parent).

In addition, make the most of a power nap if possible.  I try to squeeze in a power nap once a day if time permits.  Below are a few links that you may enjoy regarding this topic:

Lift something heavy!

This video was posted on my old blog, and is certainly worthy of a re-post.  If this clip doesn’t get your blood flowing, you should pinch yourself and make sure that you are awake!
